INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE PUMPKIN FRENCH TOAST

As you get ready to make this delicious french toast recipe, you probably have most of these ingredients in your pantry already! You may just have to grab some pumpkin puree from the grocery store, and you’re all set.

  • Slightly stale or day-old bread – we love to use Brioche bread
  • ½ cup pumpkin puree
  • 4 large eggs
  • ⅔ cup of milk
  • 3 tbsp. Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla
  • 1 ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

You can use any kind of bread for this French toast recipe. But for the best results, using slightly stale bread is the way to go. Stale bread is dryer than fresh bread, which makes it able to absorb the egg mixture better. If the only bread you have is fresh, you could try toasting it a bit first.

HOW TO MAKE THIS YUMMY FRENCH TOAST RECIPE

This pumpkin French toast starts off with thick slices of store-bought bread. Using brioche, challah, or a French baguette makes the best-tasting French toast, but any thick slices of bread will do.

  1. Add all the ingredients (except the bread) to a medium-sized bowl or shallow dish. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Heat a griddle to 350°F. Lightly grease with oil or nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Dunk a slice of bread in the French toast mixture, covering each side. Gently wipe/shake off any excess batter.
  4. Grill for 2-4 minutes on one side until golden, then flip and continue frying on the second side until both sides are golden and the bread begins to puff.

You can top your pumpkin French toast with a drizzle of maple syrup, honey, cinnamon sugar, pumpkin butter, or whipped cream — whatever sounds tasty to you!

This is one of my favorite pumpkin recipes because you can prep it overnight, making it a quick and easy breakfast for even the busiest mornings.

HOW DO YOU MAKE FRENCH TOAST THAT ISN’T SOGGY?

To avoid soggy French toast, be sure you don’t cook the bread too fast at a high temperature. Cook them at medium heat until golden brown on each side; otherwise, you’ll only sear the outside and leave the center undone.

Other causes of soggy bread are using bread that is too fresh, thin, or flimsy; you’re using too much milk in the French toast batter, or you’ve soaked the bread for too long.
