What kind of apples do I use with apple fritters?
My favorite kind of apples to use when baking sweet treats are granny smith. They are a tarter apple which pairs well when mixing them with cinnamon sugar. You can use any type of apple you like, another great option is honey crisp.
How to make Apple Fritters
- Heat oil about 2 inches deep in an electric skillet to 375 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Pour in the milk, eggs, vanilla extract and oil and stir until well blended. Mix in apples until they are fully combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden on both sides, about 5 minutes depending on the size. ( I like to use a small to medium size cookie scoop) for easy dropping. Fry in smaller batches so they are not crowded. Remove from the hot oil using a slotted spoon and drain briefly on paper towels. Toss with cinnamon sugar mixture or in powdered sugar glaze while still warm. Let glaze harden before serving.
