Tips for making apple puff pastry quickly:

  • Thin Apple Slices-While peeling and slicing apples isn’t all that time consuming you can save yourself some time by using a Johnny Apple Peeler. Not only does this save time but it also cuts the apple slices for you so you get perfectly thin apple slices, which ensures all the apples will be cooked to perfection.
  • Thaw your pastry dough– you will want to let your pastry dough thaw before working with it. You can leave it on the counter until it’s pliable enough to unfold with cracking but still slightly cold to the touch.
  • Score the Edges: (running your knife around all four sides but not cutting through the dough)to help allow the outside edges to puff up and create a barrier for your apples and some of the juices.

How to assemble Puff Pastry

  1. Thaw one sheet of puff pastry until pliable but still cold to the touch.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  3. Roll out into a 8″ x 14″ rectangle. Transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
  4. Score edges of puff pastry creating a ½ inch border all around the pastry. You don’t want to cut all the way through. Just make a score.
  5. Peel and slice apples. ( I like to use my Johnny Apple Peeler) Toss with lemon juice.
  6. Mix cinnamon, apple pie spice, a dash of salt, and brown sugar. Add to apples and toss together. Let sit for a few minutes to draw out some juices.
  7. Arrange apples as desired over puff pastry making sure to keep them inside scored border. Pour any remaining brown sugar mixture over apples.
  8. Bake at 30-35 minutes or until apples are tender and pastry is golden brown.
  9. Warm vanilla frosting in microwave until it reaches drizzling consistency. Drizzle over tart.
  10. Serve warm or at room temperature.

So yummy! I’m going to have to put on a little extra frosting, though. 😉 My husband tends to like it a lot thicker! But I’m satisfied. 🙂 It’s a perfect fall dessert smack dab in the middle of apple season!
