Craft Supplies Needed for a Torn Paper Bat

If you don’t already have some construction paper and googly eyes lying around the house, grab some from your local Walmart, Target, or Dollar Store. These craft supplies are pretty simple to find.

You don’t have to use purple construction paper. If you prefer, use a sheet of orange paper or green paper. Any Halloween or nighttime color will do!

Crafting Your Torn Paper Bat

This torn paper bat craft is a wonderful art project for kids of all ages, specifically those working on their finger strength. All you have to do is set up the template and the kids do the rest of the work.

  1. Cut out your bat template.
  2. Trace the bat onto purple paper (make sure it’s in the middle of the sheet of paper).
  3. Tear black paper into pieces and glue it inside the bat shape. You’ll have to tear small or pointy pieces to fit inside the wings.
  4. Add googly eyes using liquid glue.
  5. Attach white fangs and pink cheeks using the bottom end of a paintbrush and pink paint. These finishing touches will add a cute little face to your bat.

Exciting Bat Read Alouds for Kids

Read some fun stories with your kids before completing your town paper bat craft. The kids will love the adorable stories and it will give them something to reenact after finishing their craft. There are plenty of nonfiction and fiction titles out there. Here are some of my favorite fiction titles.

  • There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat by Lucille Colandro – These fun stories are all about a woman who swallows everything in sight and creates something with them at the end.
  • Stellaluna by Janell Cannon – A sweet story about a bat and her adventures in the night.
  • Bats at the Beach by Brian Lies – An adorable story about bats and what they do at the beach in the middle of the night.

This craft is full of so many wonderful possibilities for kids. It’s one of those wonderful collage art ideas that will keep kids occupied while you empty the dishwasher or read a book for a moment.
