You only need a few simple supplies to recreate these wooden jack-o-lanterns. I found all of my supplies at the local craft store and hardware store. The supplies are very inexpensive, so they are easy to make with a group of friends for a fun Fall or Halloween gathering. Here is what you will need:
- 4×4 Wood Board – If you plan to make a set of pumpkins you will want to cut your wood at different lengths. We cut ours at 6, 5, and 4 inches tall. If you get these from a store like Home Depot or Lowes, they should be able to cut them for you.
- Craft Paint – You will only need orange and black, both of which can be found at Michaels or on Amazon.
- Black and White Plaid Fabric, you can also use ribbon
- Craft Wood Stems
- Sandpaper
- Hot glue or wood glue

Making these cute Jack-O-Lanterns is super easy. All you need are your pre-cut wooden blocks, orange and black paint, ribbon, and a little bit of glue and you’re ready to get started.
- Paint your wooden blocks. Let dry completely before moving on to the next step!
- Take a piece of sandpaper and lightly distress the edges of the painted pumpkins for the perfect rustic look.
- Lightly draw a jack-o-lantern face with a pencil on your painted wood. Paint your jack-o-lantern faces with black paint.
- Hot glue a wooden stem to the top middle of the pumpkin.
- Cut your buffalo check fabric or ribbon into your desired lengths and tie to the wooden stem.
What kind of paint works best with wood?
Acrylic paint is a great option for painting on wood. It lasts a long time, so you can reuse this DIY Wooden Pumpkin decor yearly. If you don’t have acrylic paint, any kind of multi-surface paint will do.
