How To Make a Paper Backpack Craft

Step 1: Download and Print the Template: First, download our free backpack template from the link provided. Print it out on sturdy cardstock or plain paper that you can trace onto your chosen cardstock colors.

Step 2: Cut Out the Template Pieces: Carefully cut out all the pieces of the template. You’ll have the main backpack body, straps, pockets, and a cute little name tag.

Step 3: Choose Your Colors Let the kids pick out their favorite colors for the backpack body, straps, and pockets. This is where they can really let their personalities shine!

Step 4: Assemble the Backpack: Glue your pieces together to form your backpack shape. Add decorative stitching to the top of the pocket leading to the zipper handle if desired.

Step 5: Add Googly Eyes and Details Give your backpack some character by adding googly eyes! Use a marker to draw a smiling face and any other details the kids want, like eyelashes or freckles.

Step 6: Personalize This is the fun part! Let the kids write their names on the name tags. They can also decorate their backpacks with small stickers, glitter pens, or any other embellishments they like.

Crafty Tips:

  • Let kids choose their favorite colors to make their own backpacks! The color combinations are endless!
  • For little crafters you can precut the necessary pieces and then let me build their own backpack.
  • I recommend using a heavier cardstock for this craft vs colored copy paper.
  • Don’t have googly eyes? Draw your own eyes with a sharpie or you can download our free eyeball template!
