Make this colorful fork painted fireworks craft for kids using simple supplies! A fun and festive fourth of July craft for kids that combines painting, texture, and glitter.

Fireworks Craft for Kids
I’ve always loved fireworks, especially the sparkly ones that slowly fall through the sky like glowing willow tree branches. Those have always been my favorite. The super loud fireworks that are basically just one giant boom, though? I could definitely do without those!
This fork painted fireworks craft for kids is such a fun way to bring a little of that summer magic into craft time. It’s colorful, sparkly, messy in the best way, and honestly so satisfying to make. If your kids love painting projects that let them really create freely, this is definitely one to try.
Using plastic forks instead of paintbrushes creates the coolest firework textures and makes this fourth of July craft feel extra fun and unique. Plus, it’s simple enough for younger kids while still being exciting for older children too.

Create a Skyline
One of my favorite parts of this fireworks craft is the little city skyline at the bottom. Kids can really make it their own by creating different building shapes and adding all kinds of windows, doors, and lights. Some may want tall apartment buildings with rows of glowing windows while others create tiny city shops or skyscrapers. It’s such a fun way to let their creativity shine while making every artwork look completely unique
Why Kids Will Love This Fireworks Craft
- Kids get to paint with forks instead of paintbrushes, which instantly makes the project feel extra fun and different.
- The glitter adds the perfect sparkly touch and makes the fireworks really pop against the dark blue sky.
- The city skyline lets kids add their own creative details with different windows, doors, and building shapes.
- It’s a great mix of process art and creativity without needing complicated directions.
- This fourth of July craft for kids feels festive, colorful, and exciting for summer craft time.
Supplies Need for this Fireworks Craft
- Black Cardstock
- Dark Blue Cardstock
- Craft Paint, blue, red and white
- Yellow Colored Pencil, we love these black construction paper colored pencils best but whatever works
- Plastic Forks *
Try to use plastic forks with completely flat prongs rather than forks that have raised ridges. Some sturdier or higher-quality forks have grooves that can prevent the paint from stamping evenly when creating the fireworks.

How to Paint Fireworks
Step One: Create the City Skyline
- Using our skyline template cut out your skyline from black cardstock into a simple building shape and glue it along the bottom of your blue paper.
- Using a yellow colored pencils draw windows, doors, and lights onto the buildings.

Step Two: Paint the Fireworks
- Dip the back side of a plastic fork into paint. Press and drag the fork outward from the center of the page to create bursts of color.
- Layer red, white, and blue paint together to create bright fireworks. This is such a fun way to show kids how to paint fireworks using simple household supplies! I suggest starting with the blue and ending with the white.
- You can also add smaller paint marks around the fireworks to make them look even more dramatic.

Step Three: Add Glitter
- If desired, sprinkle glitter on top of the wet fireworks. Shake off excess.

A Few Crafty Tips
- Try adding silver paint or metallic markers for even more sparkle.
- Keep baby wipes nearby because little hands tend to get covered in paint quickly with this one.
- I prefer craft paint like Apple Barrel or Folk Art but you can also use washable tempera paint for easy cleanup.
- If you want brighter fireworks, layer lighter colors over darker colors once the first layer dries slightly.
