Rainbow Fairy Costume
My little girl sure loves to play dress up, whether it be a swash buckling pirate, cowgirl, or a pretty princess she loves to play. This rainbow fairy costume was so easy to make and she sure loves it! Any little girl that loves their sparkly rainbows and tutu’s will love playing in their new “ensemble” for hours. 🙂
For this rainbow fairy costume we decided to use some of our favorite Plaid products, FolkArt® Fabric Creations and Fabric Creations Fantasy Glitter. Fabric Creations is a super soft fabric ink that is the perfect for brushing on fabric. It’s also great for stamping and stenciling as well! It’s machine washable which makes it a great paint to use on items that will be worn or decorative pieces.
Supplies for Rainbow Fairy Costume
- White toddler T-Shirt
- Fabric Creations, in rainbow colors
- Fantasy Glitter, in coordinating rainbow colors
- White felt
- Paint Brush
Place a piece of cardboard in your shirt to prevent any paint bleeding to the other side. Using a small paint brush, begin by brushing on your rainbow “bow” colors. You can go with the classic rainbow colors or you can use shades of your favorite colors to make a rainbow of all your favorite colors. I liked a more “non perfect” look for my rainbow so I was okay with less than perfect brush strokes.
Once the Fabric Creations was dry to the touch, it only took a few minutes, I added a layer of corresponding Fantasy Glitter on top to add a shiny dazzling detail. The Fantasy Glitter goes on with a white “glue type mixture” but dries clear leaving behind all the colorful glitter pieces. It’s machine washable after curing and heat-setting, so there is no need to worry about the glitter flaking off!
We decided to add some puffy white clouds to the ends of our rainbow that really put the finishing touch to our rainbow fairy costume. We added a pretty layer of Fantasy Glitter in Unicorn to the clouds and once dried we glued them to our shirt using fabric glue. If the shirt will be worn quite frequently you can also stitch in place with a sewing machine.

Would you have a rainbow stencil for the shirt.
Katie says
Hi Claudia, Unfortunately, I don’t have a stencil but you could LIGHTLY draw a rainbow with a pencil and then paint over it to help act as a guide.
