Paper Plate Bug Crafts for Kids
If your kids love creepy crawlies, colorful insects, and hands-on crafting fun, these paper plate bug crafts are the perfect activity to try together! We created three different bug-themed paper plate crafts including a cheerful ladybug, a buzzing bumblebee, and a fun stag beetle. Each one uses simple supplies and gives kids the chance to practice cutting, painting, gluing, and creativity.
These bug crafts are perfect for spring themes, insect units, homeschool activities, classroom art projects, or simply a fun afternoon craft at home. One of my favorite things about paper plate crafts is how easy they are to customize. Kids can add their own patterns, colors, and silly details to make each bug completely unique.
Why Kids Will Love These Bug Crafts
- Fun insect themes kids naturally love
- Great fine motor skill practice
- Simple supplies you may already have
- Perfect for spring and summer crafting
- Easy to customize with colors and details

Supplies Needed to Make All Three Crafts
If you want to make all three of these fun insect crafts, grab the supplies listed below. They all use basically the same items, just in a different way.
- Black and yellow acrylic paint
- Paper Plate, dessert size
- Googly Eye Template
- Medium/Dark gray, light blue, black, and red construction paper
- Black pom poms – medium and large size
For any of these crafts, feel free to use pipe cleaners instead of construction paper to make their antennae. Twist or curl the pipe cleaners for a cute look. It’s also a great way to work on those fine motor skills by twisting the flexible material around a pencil.

How Can I Display My Kids’ Paper Plate Crafts?
One of my favorite ways to display kids’ artwork is by simply punching a small hole at the top and adding a piece of yarn or string for hanging. They look so cute displayed in bedrooms, playrooms, or even along a little craft garland.
You can also attach a sticky magnet to the back so the crafts can proudly hang on the fridge. Another fun option is placing them on small photo stands from the craft store which work especially well for paper plate crafts and thicker projects.
These paper plate bug crafts are such a fun way for kids to get creative while learning about insects at the same time.
