This is one of those crafts that works great for winter afternoons at home or a woodland animal theme in your classroom. Kids love giving their moose a personality with the silly googly eyes, and the paper bag base allows kids to even take their finished craft into imaginative playtime as a silly moose puppet.

Materials Needed To Make A Paper Bag Moose

  • Free Moose Template
  • Brown Paper Bag
  • Brown Cardstock (two different shades – we used a light and a dark)
  • Cardstock (desired color for the scarf – we used blue)
  • Scrap Cardstock (pink and black)
  • Googly Eyes
  • Black Sharpie

How To Make a Paper Bag Moose

Step 1: Design the Scarf

  • Cut out the template pieces using the matching colored cardstock—for example, dark brown for the antlers and snout, and black for the nose pieces.
  • Cut two rectangular pieces of paper for the scarf. Use a black Sharpie to draw simple patterns and line designs on both pieces. Cut a few slits along the bottom edge of both rectangles to create fringe.

Step 2: Creating the Face

  • Glue the black nose pieces onto the brown snout, then attach the snout to the bottom of your paper bag. If you plan to use this as a puppet, be sure to place it on the side of the bag that opens and closes properly.

Step 3: Adding Pieces

  • Glue the remaining pieces onto your paper bag, including the antlers, ears, scarf, and googly eyes.
