Make this fun Kite Craft for Kids using warm and cool colors! A simple and colorful spring art project with popsicle sticks and flowing tissue paper streamers.

Popsicle Stick Kite Craft
This cheerful kite craft is a fun and easy project for kids using popsicle sticks and streamers! We used warm and cool colors to give each kite its own vibrant personality, making it a great way to sneak in a little color theory while crafting. A jumbo popsicle stick on the back turns it into a handheld kite kids can run with, letting their colorful streamers trail behind in the wind—perfect for a little indoor or outdoor play!
Why This Kite Craft Is So Fun
There’s just something about long, colorful streamers that makes kids instantly excited. The tissue paper tails flow and flutter as they move, and the bright popsicle stick frames give each kite its own personality. We used colored popsicle sticks to frame each kite:
- One kite featured warm colors (reds, oranges, yellows)
- The other featured cool colors (blues, greens, purples)
Then we matched the tissue paper streamers to the color family to keep everything cohesive and bold. It’s such an easy way to introduce warm and cool colors in a way kids can actually see and understand.

How to Make a Popsicle Stick Kite Craft
STEP ONE:
- Using our kite template, cut out your two kite pieces from your green and yellow paper.
- Glue your colored popsicle sticks onto your kite piece following the shape of your kite. We used hot glue for this but only adults should use hot glue.
- If you’re following the warm and cool color theme, use red, orange, and yellow popsicle sticks on your yellow kite, and blue, green, and purple sticks on your green kite.

STEP TWO:
- Draw your eyes, eyelashes and smile onto your kites.
- Add pink paper cheeks to your kite face.

STEP THREE:
- Cut a long strip of streamer from each color and tape them to the top of your jumbo popsicle stick. (If you prefer you can cut long strips of colored tissue paper instead)
- Glue jumbo popsicle stick behind the back of the kite and get ready to let it fly!
