It’s no secret that I love coming up with fun treats to create with my kids. My first ever kids treat was an Oreo Frog. The kids loved them so much that I wanted to make another fun frog treat. This time we make adorable frog cupcakes that not only taste amazing, but are perfect for parties, get together, church events, frog-theme celebrations, and just for fun. They are extremely simple to make and only require a few common ingredients. This time around, we used a box cake mix but you can use your favorite homemade recipe as well. We mixed some food coloring into some frosting to make the frogs green and enjoyed our hard work. Take a look at how you can make these sweet spring treats too.

Ingredients Needed for Frog Cupcakes

The ingredients needed are super simple. You can find everything at the grocery store. You may have to look at the craft store for the jumbo eyes and I have also attached a link where you can find them online.

  • Cupcakes
  • Buttercream Frosting
  • Food Coloring
  • Red Pull and Peel Twizzlers
  • Jumbo Candy Eyes

We like using the jumbo candy eyes to make the process a little more fun. Instead of frosting dots for eyes, these chewable candies are a fun way to decorate. The kids always have so much fun decorating the adorable cupcakes using the candies.

How to Make the Cute Frog Cupcakes

  1. Make your cupcakes according to the box mix recipe or your personal recipe.
  2. Allow the cupcakes to fully cool.
  3. While your cupcakes are cooling, add a drop or two of food coloring to your buttercream frosting. We used green food coloring to make the frosting look like a frog. Mix it up in a small bowl and set aside.
  4. Once the cupcakes are cool, frost them with your green frosting.
  5. Add two jumbo eyes in the center of the frog’s head on the top of the cupcake. We set ours upright so they looked like the frog’s eyes were popping out. You can lay them flat if you prefer.
  6. Add a small piece of the red Twizzler for the mouth and you’re done! Enjoy!

My kids got a little silly and made some of the frogs frown or made goofy faces with the Twizzler candy. Some of their frog’s eyes were going in crazy directions too. Let the kids have fun with their placement of the pieces.

These sweet frogs make great desserts at a frog birthday party as well! They are sure to be a big hit for any child. If your kids like Princess Tiana, they make perfect Princess and the Frog treats the kids will go crazy for.

What Do I Do With the Remaining Frosting?

If you have extra frosting, you can save it for another project for about a week or two. It will keep in the fridge for a while. Be sure to mix it up well before frosting though in case the food coloring separates.

If you don’t want to save the frosting, you can put the frosting into a sandwich baggie and cup the tip off. Add little dots to your frog cupcakes to act as warts. Now they are cute toads! Change the color with some more food coloring to make the dots stand out.

Which Flavor of Cupcake Should I Use?

Use whichever flavor of cupcake mix you like best. The cake will be hidden under the green frosting so you can use chocolate cupcakes if you wish. You can’t go wrong with any flavor of cupcake mix!

What Type of Frosting Should I Use?

We like to use pre-made frosting because it makes life a little easier. I have made buttercream icing before but we tend to use store-bought vanilla frosting when making cupcakes. I would suggest using white frosting so that you can dye it your desired color

I hope you enjoy this great recipe and have fun baking with your little ones! Be sure to show me your results. I always love seeing your creations.
