This festive Christmas unicorn craft is such a fun and simple holiday craft that any unicorn lover will enjoy! Holiday red hair, a winter scarf and hand drawn snowflakes give this unicorn her holiday season festive charm!

My little girl loves all things unicorn, as many girls do.  There is something special about little ponies with their “magical” golden unicorn horn and their bright colored hair that just makes them so much fun! These whimsical creatures have hit many homes in many ways, whether it’s in your little girls room decor, cute unicorn crafts, or the clothing they wear – unicorns seem to be everywhere 🙂  So with Christmas just around the corner, my daughter and I decided to create a unicorn that was perfect for the Christmas and winter season.  This little paper craft is a fun twist on classic Christmas crafts for a unicorn fan.  We can’t wait to make some more Christmas unicorn crafts in the near future!

Instead of the classic look of hair filled with rainbow colors we decided to add a shade of holiday red hair, a winter scarf and hand drawn snowflakes to give this unicorn her holiday season festive charm!

Supplies Needed for Unicorn Paper Craft:

  • Free Unicorn Template
  • Cardstock – red, white, light pink, green, brown
  • Glitter Paper or Foam, can also just use a yellow piece of paper, cut into a horn shape
  • White Paint Pen (we love these and these!)
  • Red Marker
  • Black Marker or Sharpie
  • Glue Stick

How to Make Christmas Paper Unicorn

1. Prepare Template Pieces: start by cutting out your free template pieces and using them to trace and cut out your needed pieces.

2. Add details to your unicorns hair, ears, and scarf pieces.  We added a few strands of hair with our red marker to our hair pieces. This just added a fun dimension to her hair. We added some hand drawn snowflakes to her scarf but any design will do!  We then added some pink inside the inner ear and a few snowflakes on her hair.

3. Piece together: Piece together your unicorn pieces with a glue stick or liquid school glue such as Elmers.  Add your scarf pieces and brown antlers on top of the unicorn on either side of the unicorn’s horn.

4. Add finishing details: add eyes, cheeks, and other facial features.

6. Make it your own: This is a great craft to Encourage your older kids to make their own version. They can use their favorite colors for the hair and scarf, and design the scarf in whatever doodles they want! Instead of antlers they can add a Santa hat! Giving them creative freedom to create it their own is the best part of crafting and a great way to encourage creativity.  This craft is also great fun way for little hands to practice their fine motor skills while they cut out their small pieces of paper and have to glue together.

This Christmas Unicorn may not be your typical holiday decor but here are some Fun ways to display or use this Christmas Unicorn:

  • Make an adorable unicorn ornament: Attach a ribbon or string to the back of your paper unicorn and it’s ready to be added to your other Christmas tree decorations! You can even laminate your unicorn before you add the ribbon and it will be part of adorable keepsakes for Christmas years to come! Homemade ornaments make perfect gifts for friends, family or for girls to share with their best friends.
  • Make it a Card – flip your finished unicorn craft over and write a sweet message for their family and friends.
  • Add a little Winter Cheer to your Refrigerator – add a magnet to the back of your finished project and add it to your collection of art projects on your family refrigerator 🙂
  • Make it a Puppet – using tape or a little bit of glue from a hot glue gun (for parents only) add a jumbo sized popsicle stick to the back of the Unicorn and your little hands will have a fun puppet to carry around.
