Materials Needed for Christmas Mason Jars

Mason jar Christmas gift ideas are the perfect way to prep for the holidays. These cute jars are great for decorations or small treats for family and friends. They are a fun way to gift and just need a few simple supplies. Here’s what you need:

  • mason jars, I used a 16-ounce one and an 8 Ounce
  • Gingerbread House Mini Ornaments or ornaments of choice, I found mine at Walmart
  • Red Berry Christmas Bush or greenery or choice
  • Epsom Salt
  • Jute
  • Tacky Glue
  • Glitter

What is jute? Jute is brown twine that you can buy by the spool at the craft store. It comes in a variety of colors, but I love using classic brown. It’s a great craft material to have on hand around the holidays. It makes a lovely wrapping decoration as well.

Find all of these materials at Hobby Lobby or a local craft store. You can also find them at Walmart and other supercenters in the crafting sections.

How to Make Christmas Mason Jars

To create your mason jar Christmas decoration, follow these simple steps. You will have adorable mason jar gifts and decorations in no time. It’s simple enough for kids to complete as well!

  1. Start by mixing together one cup of Epsom salt with 2-3 tsp of glitter.
  2. Paint Tacky glue all around the outside of your mason jars. Don’t do the rim or the bottom of the jar.
  3. Spoon Epsom/glitter mixture on top of the glue until it is completely covered. You can press slightly with your fingers if needed. Allow glue to dry.
  4. Wrap jute around the top of the jars.
  5. Cut two small pieces from your red berry Christmas bush. I used two that didn’t have any berries on them, but use whatever looks best to you.
  6. I painted a bit of extreme glitter Mod Podge on the green leaves as well but this step is optional
  7. Twist leaves together and add them to your jar.
  8. Add a gingerbread house mini ornament.

Add these to your to do list this holiday season and let kids make their own mason jar Christmas gifts. You just need a few craft supplies and glass jars and you have a Christmas mason jar craft everyone will love.
