Jonah and the Whale Craft
Jonah is one of those Bible stories that we learn from an early age in a Sunday School lesson. We learn about the prophet named Noah who tried to run away from God’s plan. God asked him to go to the city of Nineveh, to deliver a message that they needed to turn from their evil ways and to follow God. Instead, Jonah got on a boat to go the other way. A big storm came, and Jonah ended up in the sea. A giant fish swallowed him, and Jonah stayed in its belly for three days. Jonah prayed, and the fish spat him out on dry land. Jonah then went to Nineveh and told the people what God wanted him to say. The people listened, and God was happy!
Of course that is a quick snapshot of the story of Jonah but you can read about the whole story in the Book of Jonah in the Bible.
We wanted to make a fun and simple craft that helps kids of all ages remember about Jonah and the big fish! The Bible says Jonah was swallowed by a “great fish” – we aren’t actually told what kind of fish but we decided to go with a whale as it’s an easy way for kids to visualize the story.
