How To Make a Torn Paper Pineapple Craft

Step 1: Prepare the Pineapple Base

Start by tearing the yellow paper into small pieces. The torn edges add a lovely texture that mimics the rough exterior of a pineapple. You can mix two shades of yellow to give the pineapple a more dynamic and natural look.

Step 2: Assemble the Pineapple

On a sturdy piece of cardstock, start gluing down the torn yellow pieces, overlapping them slightly to cover the entire surface and ensure no gaps. Shape the pieces into a rounded pineapple shape.

Step 3: Create the Crown

Cut strips of green paper for the pineapple’s crown. Arrange the strips in a bunch at the top of the pineapple, fanning them out to mimic the spiky leaves.

Step 4: Add Facial Features

Stick googly eyes on the pineapple. For the mouth, cut a smiling shape from black cardstock and glue it below the eyes.

Cut circles from pink cardstock for the cheeks and glue them on either side of the smile.

Optional: Add eyelashes by cutting small strips of black paper and gluing them above the eyes for a charming effect.

Crafty Tips & Classroom Use

  • Add personality! Let kids personalize their pineapples by choosing different eye sizes, changing the expression, or adding additional accessories like sunglasses or a bow, cut from paper.
  • Shake it up: If making paper leaves is too difficult you can also make your leaves with torn pieces of green paper!
  • Add some Tropical Flair! Let kids add some doodles around their pineapple to give it a tropical background. You can add hibiscus flowers, tropical leaves, palm trees…etc!
  • Crafty Learning: Use this craft to teach kids about pineapples, how they grow, and where they come from. It’s a great opportunity to incorporate learning into fun activities.
