HOW TO VIDEO:

Supplies Needed To Make Torn Paper Ornaments

  • White cardstock (12 in. X 12 in. sheet)
  • Various shades of blue paper (or any colors you prefer)
  • Googly eyes
  • Black construction paper for the mouths
  • Glue stick
  • Black marker or pen
  • Gold Metallic markers (optional, for adding stars and details)
  • White Paint Pen (optional, for adding white highlights to ornaments)

How To Make Torn Paper Ornaments

Tear the Paper
Tear the blue paper into small pieces. Kids will love this step, as it’s both fun and great for improving their fine motor skills.

Form the Ornament Shapes
Draw circles on the cardstock to guide your child in forming the ornaments. We used a small bowl to trace three circles but you can create any size circles you wish to use. Use a glue stick to help them fill in the circles with the torn paper pieces, overlapping edges for a mosaic-like effect

Draw Ornament Strings
With a black marker, draw lines from the top of the ornaments to the top of the page, making them look like they’re hanging. Add small bows at the top of each ornament for added charm.

Add the Faces
Cut small smiles from black construction paper and glue them onto the ornaments. Add googly eyes for a playful, expressive look. If you’d like, draw eyelashes or eyebrows for extra personality!

Decorate the Background
Use metallic markers to add stars or snowflakes around the ornaments for a festive touch. You can also use a white paint pen to add some highlights to your ornaments.

Crafty Tips

  • Color Variety– let kids choose different color combinations for unique ornaments. Red and green, gold and silver, or even a rainbow theme could be fun!
  • Prep ahead – for younger children feel free to tear a bunch of pieces of paper ahead of time.
  • Smart Swaps – don’t want to buy metallic markers or white paint pens? Feel free to use regular markers or glitter gel pens for decorating.
