Robot Toilet Paper Roll Craft

We love to reduce, reuse, and recycle in our home. One of the easiest ways to do this is to collect cardboard tubes, like toilet rolls for crafting. We sometimes have a whole bin of them. We use easy crafts, like this Toilet Paper Roll Robot, to use up the tubes, practice fine motor skills, and learn about new things. The kids always have so much fun and the finished projects make great props for pretend play. I love hearing them tell stories and act out scenes from books or movies with their crafts. Keep reading to see how easy this toilet roll craft is to complete with your little ones.

You don’t have to use the same colors of pipe cleaners and cardstock as me. Feel free to use a rainbow of colors and let your kids get creative with their color choices. This craft is an easy way to give them a model of what they can look like and then watch them do their thing. The robots don’t have to be perfect and you might find that they create something super cool. Just watch them create and the end result will be a surprise.

Step by Step Instructions:

Here’s how to make your toilet paper roll robot craft. Follow these simple instructions:

  1. Begin by wrapping your toilet paper tubes in aluminum foil.
  2. Cut your square belly pieces out of blue construction paper. Cut your rectangle belly piece out of yellow construction paper.
  3. Add small pom poms to the yellow piece and buttons to the square piece. I attached it with liquid glue, but you can also use a hot glue gun.
  4. Attach two blue pipe cleaners as the arms. I twisted mine a little to look squiggly.
  5. Glue a pom pom on either side of the robot’s head to be its ears.
  6. Cut out a thin piece of white paper and draw a grid-like pattern on it with a Sharpie marker to act as the mouth.
  7. Attach another piece of pipe cleaner to the top of the robot head with a pom pom on top. This is the robot’s antennae.

Note: Use the square and rectangle belly pieces interchangeably and feel free to decorate it with buttons and pom poms however you see fit. You can also customize your robots with colors other than the ones I chose.

Attach a popsicle stick to the inside of the cardboard roll and kids can use their easy-peasy craft as a puppet. They will enjoy hours of fun with their robot craft.
