A simple heart puppy valentine is a fun paper craft for kids made from simple heart shapes – great for gifting to friends and family!

Every year I contemplate whether to buy store-bought Valentines for my kids to pass out or have them create their own. I know it’s more tedious, but they are so adorable, and we always have a great time making homemade cards. I highly recommend it for quality time, especially with older kids who like to craft. This is a great craft for the whole family to do, just in time for February 14th. Find out how to make the adorable Heart Puppy Valentine on your own by reading below.

HOW TO VIDEO:

Materials Needed for a Heart Puppy Valentine

The materials needed for this Valentine’s craft are super simple. You most likely have everything you need already in your craft drawers. I found everything at Hobby Lobby or Walmart, but they can also be found online! Be sure to check the Dollar Store as well; they always have great prices on these common craft supplies.

  • Cardstock or construction paper – light and darker pink, black, white, red, and brown
  • Googly Eyes ( ½ inch eyes)
  • Puppy Template pieces
  • White ribbon
  • Black Sharpie or black marker
  • Glue

For this craft, you can use liquid glue or a hot glue gun. A glue stick may or may not hold the eyes on the paper.

Feel free to use any color construction paper. If you don’t want the dog to be brown, you can use pink hearts or red hearts to create your craft. Make it as Valentine’s Day themed as you want! The furry friend will look amazing no matter what.

How to Make a Puppy Valentine Craft

To make this Valentine, just follow the step-by-step instructions below. Your kids will love creating these simple crafts and giving them as gifts to loved ones this February.

  1. Cut out the heart template and place it on a folded piece of paper. Be sure the bottom of the heart is on the fold line so that when you open it, it looks like a card.
  2. Cut out the remaining pieces and glue them to the dog.
  3. Add eyes, spots, and a tongue.
  4. Add a bone to the inside of the top red heart so that when you open the card, the bone goes with it.
  5. Write a special note or Happy Valentine’s Day on the inside, and you’re ready to gift them.

This craft is super simple for kids of all ages. It’s great for a crafty morning at home or to start the day in the classroom. All you need are some paper hearts and the instructions above!

What Should I Write Inside My Card?

The options are endless for the inside of your card. Feel free to write a personalized message for each loved one or use some of the silly phrases below. I love a good pun, so I thought these dog-themed ones would be perfect for this particular craft.

  • You are Totally Paw-some!
  • You are Dog-gone Cool!
  • Hope this Valentine’s Day is Furry Fantastic!
  • Wishing You a Drooly Excellent Valentine’s Day!

You can also keep it simple and write Happy Valentine’s Day on the inside of each card. Don’t forget to sign your name, so the recipient knows who it is from.

If you love this Valentine’s Day craft, you will love these other ideas. Use them to prep for the 14th of February and get your kids excited about the month of love.
