✏️ Paper Pencil Craft for Kids
A simple and creative back-to-school craft using paper and tempera paint sticks.
There’s something so exciting about new school supplies for kids especially at the start of a new school year! This Paper Pencil Craft for Kids is the perfect way to celebrate going back to school. It’s easy to make, uses simple supplies you likely already have, and it turns out so cute!
We paired our paper pencil with a handmade piece of “notebook paper” using tempera paint sticks, but you can also make these simple lines with crayons or markers if preferred!
Whether you’re a teacher creating a bulletin board, a homeschool mom starting your year, or just looking for a fun back-to-school craft, this project is sure to bring smiles!

Materials Needed:
- White cardstock
- Free Pencil Template
- Colored cardstock paper
- yellow
- tan
- black
- pink
- gray
- Tempera Paint Sticks or markers (for drawing lines)
- Googly eyes
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Black marker for details
- Crayons for details

How to Make the Paper Pencil Craft:
Step 1: Create Your Paper Background
- Use blue tempera paint sticks (or markers) to draw horizontal lines across a piece of white paper. Add a pink vertical line along the left to mimic notebook paper. Add hole punch dots with your blue paint stick for a fun touch!

Step 2: Build the Pencil
- Using our template cut our your template pieces. Glue your pink rectangle to the top of your yellow pencil. Add a strip of gray inbetween
- With your yellow & gray crayons, Add vertical lines to mimic the wooden edges and a line across the “metal” part of your pencil.
- Cut a triangle from tan paper for the pencil tip, and a small black triangle for the lead.


Step 3: Glue Everything Together
- Stick on googly eyes and pink paper cheeks, then draw a smile with a black marker.
- Assemble the pencil pieces together and glue it to the lined paper background. Add a curly line underneath as if your pencil has been busy doodling.
