How to Make a Torn Paper Balloon Craft
Step One:
- Using our free template, trace three balloons. We had the larger one in the middle and the two smaller ones on each side.
- For older kids, this is a great opportunity to practice layering in art. Encourage them to trace their balloons so one overlaps slightly in front of the middle balloon while another sits behind it. This helps create depth and makes the balloon picture feel more realistic and three-dimensional.

Step Two:
- Decide what colors you would like your three balloons to be.
- Tear each colored paper into small 1/2 inch – 1 inch pieces. (These do NOT need to be perfect)
- Glue your torn piece of paper to your middle balloon following the traced lines.

Step Three:
- Glue the rest of your torn paper pieces onto the remaining two balloons, filling in the shapes and following the traced outlines as you go.

Step Four:
- Add a white highlight to your balloons with a white paint pen.

Step Five:
- Using our template, cut out your tied balloon sections.
- Add detail lines and small patterns to each balloon using matching marker colors to help create texture and make the balloons stand out even more.
- Draw balloon string/ribbon to your balloons with your black sharpie.

Step Six:
- If desired, add googly eyes, a black mouth and pink cheeks.

Crafty Tips
- Use cardstock for sturdier balloon shapes.
- Younger children may prefer larger torn paper pieces for easier gluing.
- Add googly eyes and smiley faces to the other balloons if desired!
- This craft works great for birthday party themes or classroom celebrations.
