We first hear about wisemen in the Bible in Matthew 2:1-2. They are described as Magi from the East who followed the Star of Bethlehem until they found they found Jesus. It’s a common thought that the wisemen visited baby Jesus at the night of his birth but it could have been months or even years after he was born. Either way, this miraculous star lead them directly to Jesus.

How To Make a Three Wisemen Craft

Step 1: Download and Print the Templates
Start by downloading the free Three Wisemen and Bible verse templates. Print them on white cardstock for durability.

Step 2: Color the Wisemen
Let your kids’ creativity shine as they color the wisemen. Encourage them to use vibrant colors to bring out the beauty of the story.

Step 3: Cut Out the Wisemen
Once the wisemen are colored, carefully cut them out along the outlines. Younger kids may need a bit of assistance with this step.

Step 4: Create the Starry Night Background
To make the night sky, take a black sheet of cardstock. Dip a small paintbrush into white paint, then gently splatter the paint onto the paper by lightly tapping your brush against another brush or pencil to mimic stars. Let it dry completely.

Step 5: Add the Desert Ground
Cut or rip a strip of brown paper the same length as your paper to represent the desert ground. We like to lightly crumble the paper into our hands first and then flatten back out to give it a little texture but that step is completely optional. Glue it along the bottom of the black cardstock.

Step 6: Assemble the Scene
Glue the wisemen onto the background, standing them on the desert ground. Add foam glitter stars to the night sky for a touch of sparkle, and place the large star template near the top to represent the star of Bethlehem.

Step 7: Include the Bible Verse
Cut out the Bible verse and glue it at the top or side of the craft. The verse reads:
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy!” – Matthew 2:10

Crafty Tips:

  1. Protect Your Space: When splattering white paint for the starry background, lay down newspaper or an old sheet to keep your workspace clean, it can get quite messy.
  2. Alternative Stars: If you don’t have foam glitter stars, use star stickers or cut out stars from shiny foil or gold paper.
  3. Extra Night Sky Details: Use metallic gel pens or silver markers to add twinkling stars or shooting stars for a whimsical touch.
