  • Colored cardstock (red for background, pink, black, white, and orange for ostrich pieces)
  • Large googly eyes
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Black marker or Sharpie

How to Make a Paper Loop Ostrich

STEP ONE:

  • Choose a piece of colored cardstock to use as your background, we used red for a bold look!
  • Use the provided ostrich template to cut out the ostrich’s head/neck, beak, eyes, feather strips (black and white), and feet.
  • Make your paper loops by folding and gluing or taping the feather strips. Gently press on the folded edge to give it more of a looped shape. You will make 4 white loops and 8 black loops.

STEP TWO:

  • Add face details to beak with a place sharpie. Glue to the pink head.
  • Add googly eyes and eyelashes if desired to the pink head piece.
  • If desired, add three little strips of pink paper to the top of your ostrich’s head.
  • Glue neck and head piece to the center of your background piece.
  • Glue your loops around the ostrich’s neck, leaving a space in the center for the body piece you’ll add next.

STEP THREE:

  • Cut and create your own ostrich body from black paper. This piece is not included in the template so that each child can size it based on their loop placement.

STEP FOUR:

  • Accordion fold your two white paper strips to create the legs.
  • Glue the orange feet to the bottom of each leg.
  • Then, glue the legs to the back side of the ostrich body so they hang down below.
