Fingerprint Flower Craft

It’s no secret in my household that I absolutely LOVE flowers! Whether they’re blooming in a garden or crafted on paper, there’s just something about their bright, cheerful colors that makes me smile. This Fingerprint Hyacinth Flower Craft is perfect for kids of all ages. Using just paint, paper, and tiny fingertips, children can create a beautiful trio of blooming hyacinths that pop right off the page.

This craft is a beautiful way to welcome spring and summer or celebrate a sunny day. Kids use their fingertips to paint clusters of blossoms in shades of pink and purple, creating the look of fluffy hyacinth flowers. Then, we add long green paper leaves to bring the flowers to life. A couple of cute butterflies and some dotted flight paths add a playful finishing touch!

HOW TO VIDEO:

Materials Needed:

  • Purple paint (we used Apple Barrel, Purple Iris)
  • Pink or Magenta paint
  • White paint
  • 8.5 x 11 inch white cardstock
  • Green cardstock
  • Glue stick or liquid glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper plate or paint tray (for dabbing paint)
  • Wet wipes or paper towels for cleanup
  • Template

How To Make The Hyacinth Fingerprint Craft

Step 1: Cut and Glue the Stems

  • Begin by cutting three green stems from your cardstock. Glue one stem straight up in the center of your white paper, and the other two at a slight outward angle on either side. Be sure to leave enough space between the three stems to create your flower petals.

Step 2: Create the Center (Purple) Flower

  • Use your fingerprint dipped in dark purple paint to create the center hyacinth flower. Start from the bottom and work your way up. The base should be wider, tapering as you move toward the top of the stem.

Step 3: Add Highlights to the Purple Flower

  • While the purple paint is still wet, mix a small of white paint together to create a lighter shade. Use your finger to add dabs of this lighter purple throughout the flower for texture and depth.
  • Follow the same steps to create the two pink or magenta hyacinth flowers on either side. Begin with the darker pink paint and layer in a lighter shade by mixing in a bit of white.
  • If you would like to add butterflies, dip your finger into the orange paint and create a cluster of 4 fingerprint shapes. Let dry completely.
  • Cut out long leaf shapes from your green cardstock. Fold each one lightly in half, then unfold. Glue each leaf in place around the base of the stems, tucking them slightly behind the flowers. Once the glue is dry, refold the leaves slightly to give them a 3D, lifted look!
