How To Make a Handprint Spider

Step 1: Print The Template

Start by printing the spider web template. This will serve as the base for your craft, adding a fun Halloween background to your spider.

Step 2: Trace and Cut The Handprint

Trace your child’s hand on black cardstock and carefully cut out the shape. Make sure the fingers point down when positioning the handprint on the paper — these will be the spider’s legs! If your child doesn’t like having their hand traced you can use our free handprint template to make your own!

Another fun option is to paint your child’s hand black and have them press their hand down into the same area! This is a fun way to capture your little ones handprint in a more personalized way.

Step 3: Add Googly Eyes

Glue googly eyes onto the handprint spider. Get creative! We chose two different sizes for a quirky look, but you can mix and match however you like.

Step 3: Add Cheeks and a Smile

Cut out small circles from pink cardstock and glue them to the spider’s “face” to give it cute cheeks. Use a white paint pen to draw a smile or smirk, bringing your spider to life.

Crafty Tips

  • If you’re working with younger kids, pre-cut the handprint and cheek shapes for them to glue on.
  • To make the craft more durable, consider laminating the finished product! If you choose this option you will want to make your own eyeballs as your can’t laminate over the plastic eyes. Use white circle shapes and add a black pupil with a black marker.
  • Try experimenting with making your own Halloween background— you can color a piece of cardstock and draw spiders, webs, or even add Halloween stickers!

This Handprint Spider Craft is a fun, easy, and budget-friendly way to get into the Halloween spirit. Whether you’re creating it as a family activity, for school projects, or just for fun, this craft is bound to be a hit.
