Fourth of July Wreath Craft

I have always loved the Fourth of July. It’s one of those holidays that reminds me to slow down, soak up the second half of the summer, and make simple memories with my kids. Whether we’re watching fireworks, grilling outside, playing on a slip and slide or sitting around the picnic table coloring together, those little moments always end up being my favorites.

This Printable Fourth of July Wreath Craft is such a fun way to add a little creativity to your celebration. Kids get to color and decorate patriotic symbols like stars, fireworks, flags, an eagle, and Uncle Sam’s hat before turning them into a fun wreath!

This wreath is also a wonderful craft to make around Memorial Day as you talk with your kids about American symbols, honoring those who served our country, and the importance of remembering those who gave their lives in service. It’s a meaningful way to combine creativity with conversations about patriotism!

How to Make Fourth of July Wreath Craft

Step One: Print off your Template & Color

  • Print your wreath template onto cardstock if you have it. Cardstock is a little sturdier than regular printer paper, making it easier for little hands to color, cut, and display without tearing.
  • Color your clipart pieces with markers, colored pencils or crayons.

Step Two: Prep Pieces

  • Once your coloring is complete, carefully cut out the printable pieces.
  • Cut out the center of your paper plate, leaving just the outer ring to use as the base of your wreath.

Step Three: Arrange your Wreath

  • Start by attaching the largest patriotic pieces to your wreath base using glue or tape. Once those are in place, fill in the empty spaces with the smaller decorations until your wreath is just the way you like it!
  • Attach a ribbon to the back of your wreath to hang.

As both a mom of three and an elementary art teacher, I’ve made crafts like this with lots of little hands over the years! Here are a few of my favorite tips to help make your crafting time easier, less messy, and even more fun.

  • Color before cutting: It’s much easier for little hands to color the printable while it’s still a full sheet of paper. Once everything is colored, simply cut out the pieces.
  • Start with the biggest decorations: Glue the larger patriotic pieces onto the wreath first, then fill in the smaller stars, hearts, and fireworks to create a balanced design.
  • My favorite shortcut: I usually reach for double-sided tape or glue dots instead of liquid glue. They stick right away, there’s no waiting for pieces to dry, and little hands don’t have to worry about decorations sliding around.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is this Fourth of July wreath craft best for?

  • This craft is perfect for preschoolers through elementary-aged kids. Younger children may need a little help cutting out the wreath, while older kids can complete the project on their own and even add extra creative details.

Do I need to use cardstock?

  • Not at all! Regular printer paper works just fine. However, if you have cardstock on hand, I highly recommend using it because it’s sturdier, easier for little hands to work with, and holds up better when you hang the finished wreath.

Can I laminate the wreath?

  • Absolutely! If you’re hoping to make this a Fourth of July tradition, try turning it into a reusable wreath! After your child colors and cuts out each piece, laminate them individually. Then, trim around each piece again, leaving a small clear border so the laminate stays sealed. Attach the pieces to the paper plate with glue dots or double-sided tape, and you’ll have a festive wreath you can enjoy year after year.

Can I use this wreath for Memorial Day?

  • Yes! While I designed this wreath with the Fourth of July in mind, it’s also perfect for Memorial Day celebrations, patriotic classroom activities, homeschool lessons, or any time you’re learning about American symbols and holidays.
