How To Make This Fingerprint Christmas Craft

Step 1: Print the Free Christmas Christmas Bulb Template

Step 2: Add Light Bulb Bases

Use a black Sharpie to make small squares along the light strand where each bulb will go. These squares will be the bases for your “fingerprint bulbs.”

Step 3: Fingerprint Painting

Dip a finger in your choice of paint color and press it firmly onto each square to create a “bulb” effect. Repeat with different colors for a cheerful holiday light effect. Make sure to wipe your finger clean before switching to a new color!

Step 4: Add Highlights

Once the paint is dry, use a white paint pen or gel pen to add a small highlight to each bulb. This gives the lights a dimensional, realistic look and makes the colors pop.

Crafty Tips:

  • Use Q-tips for Clean Fingerprints: If fingerprints are too messy for your child Q-tips are a great alternative! Kids can dip the Q-tip in paint and dab it onto the paper to create neat, round “lights” without the messy fingers.
  • Add a White Paint Pen Highlight: After the paint dries, use a white paint pen to add a small highlight to each light bulb. This detail makes the lights look like they’re glowing and gives the project a polished look.
  • No-Mess Option with Dot Stickers: If you’re looking for a paint-free version, try colorful dot stickers instead of paint. Kids can stick the dots over the light string, which makes setup and cleanup even quicker—ideal for classroom settings!
  • Make it Sparkly with Glitter Glue: Add a touch of holiday sparkle by applying a bit of glitter glue to each light. This will make the lights shimmer and add some extra festive magic.
  • Encourage Creativity with Color: Let kids choose their own color combinations for the lights. Encourage them to mix and match traditional colors like red and green or try something fun like pink and blue for a unique twist.
