How To Make a Torn Paper Polar Bear

Step 1: Prep the Background

Use our free polar bear template to cut out the polar bear head template piece. Trace around the head onto your blue paper as a guide for your torn pieces of paper.

Step 2: Tear and Assemble

Tear the Paper: Tear small pieces of white cardstock or construction paper.

Assemble the Polar Bear: Glue the torn white paper onto the background in inside your drawn head piece.

Step 3: Add the Face Details

  • Add pink circles for the cheeks and pink inner ears to make your bear extra cute.
  • Glue on googly eyes.
  • Cut out a gray oval for the nose and draw nostrils and a mouth with a black marker. Glue it in place.

Step 4: Add the Accessories

Make the Earmuffs: Shape a purple pipe cleaner into an arch for the earmuff band and glue it over the top of the polar bear’s head. Hot glue works best for this but only adults should use it. Attach a small purple pom-pom to each end of the pipe cleaner.

Finish with a Scarf: Using the template piece cut out a scarf shape. Now cut out small strips and glue to your scarf. Trim off excess. Glue to the bottom of your polar bear.

Add snow: Using a q-tip and white paint, dip your q-tip into white paint and add dots around your polar bear. Of course this is completely optional but adds a fun touch to your craft.

Crafty Tips

  • Tearing Paper: Let kids tear the white paper themselves! Tearing strengthens hand muscles and improves fine motor skills.
  • Color Variations: Let kids create their scarf in whatever colors they love best. If desired you can also cut out the main scarf piece and let your child design it by coloring.
  • Earmuffs: If you don’t have pom-poms, try using cotton balls or small paper circles.

This Torn Paper Polar Bear craft is a delightful and simple project that lets kids embrace the joy of creating with their hands. Whether it’s for a fun afternoon at home or a winter unit at school, this craft is sure to be a hit. Happy crafting!
