How To Build a Medieval Castle
Step 1: Print your Castle and Extras!
Print and Color: First, print out the castle, knights, and dragon pieces. Let your kids’ imaginations run wild as they choose their favorite colors to bring the castle and characters to life. Will the castle be a traditional gray, or maybe a bright rainbow fortress? It’s up to them!

Step 2: Cut out all your pieces!
Cut Out the Pieces: Once the coloring is done, carefully cut out all of the pieces, following the cut lines. This is a great time for kids to practice their scissor skills, but if they’re younger, you may need to assist for some of the small pieces.

Step 3: Set the Stage!
Create the Background: Choose a large piece of cardstock (we used a 12 x12 in. piece of black cardstock) to serve as the backdrop for the castle. Dark colors like black, blue, or even a sunset orange can make the perfect background.
Assemble the Castle: Now it’s time to build! Help your child glue the castle to the background, then start adding in the fun details like flags, shields, knights, and of course, the dragon! Encourage them to play around with where each piece goes—there’s no right or wrong way to create their scene.

Crafty Tips:
- Try Different Backgrounds: Instead of plain black paper, use wrapping paper or scrapbooking paper for a fun, textured look. Your child could even draw a landscape—like mountains or a river—for their castle to sit on.
- Laminate for Durability: If you want to make this craft last longer, you can laminate the pieces after coloring and cutting but before assembling. That way, kids can create and rearrange the scene over and over again!
- Add Some Flair: Want to take it a step further? Add some glitter to the flags, draw extra details like clouds, or even create a fiery scene with the dragon breathing flames!
Let the Adventure Begin!
This Build a Castle Printable is more than just a craft—it’s a gateway to hours of imaginative play. Once the castle is built, your kids can create stories with their brave knights, sneaky dragons, and royal banners waving high. Will they defend their castle from an attacking dragon, or invite it to join the feast? The choice is theirs!
Encourage your kids to get creative and make their castle scene truly unique. Happy crafting, and don’t forget to share photos of your finished creations with us—we’d love to see the epic castles your builders create!
