These Tie Dye Easter Eggs are a mess free fun Easter activity using markers and coffee filters! No vinegar or dyes needed!

TIE DYE EASTER EGGS

Dyeing Easter eggs is a fun activity for kids that has been around for ages. This DIY tie dye version is an alternative to the classic dye kits or food coloring, vinegar and color stained fingers. You only need a few basic supplies that are probably already in your home!

Supplies Needed:

Hard Boiled Eggs or White Craft Eggs
Washable Markers
Coffee Filters
Rubber Bands
Water Spray Bottle

Can I eat the Hardboiled Eggs that have been Dyed?

While we used a few older hard boiled eggs (that we didn’t plan on ingesting) for our craft you can also use white craft eggs that you can find at local craft stores and Amazon. While Crayola Washable Markers are Non-Toxic their art supplies aren’t Food Grade. Some of the dye may transfer under the shell of the egg. If you have concerns about using real eggs the craft eggs makes a great substitute and they last for years to come 🙂

-Color your Coffee Filters your desired colors

We decided to keep “like colors” together – different shades of greens, pinks, blues, and yellows all went on their own coffee filter. You could also choose to mix colors that blend together well. For example Red and Blue will make purple. I would avoid mixing a bunch of colors on the same tissue paper as they could turn black or brown, unless that’s the look you are going for 🙂

-Wrap your Eggs in Colored Paper

Once you have colored all your tissue papers you will want to wrap your eggs. Place the pointier end of your egg in the middle of your coffee filter, wrap coffee filter around egg and secure top with a rubber band.

-Spray With Water

Hold the rubber banded end with one hand and lightly spray coffee filter eggs with water. You want to spray so that the colors begin to blend and bleed into each other but you don’t wan’t to OVER saturate. Place sprayed eggs in a cupcake liner to avoid colors blending. Allow to Dry.
