This Torn Paper Chick is the perfect activity to welcome Spring and the Easter season! Torn pieces of paper and large googly eyes make for a silly and cute baby chick!

This torn paper chick is such a cute and silly springtime craft for kids. Older and younger kids enjoy this simple activity as it requires minimal supplies and takes less than 30 minutes to complete which is perfect for an at school activity session or homeschooling art lesson.

You need minimal supplies for this craft which is perfect for the casual crafter up to the crafter that has a more robust supply closet 🙂 Tearing paper into smaller pieces is a great activity for Preschool- Kindergarten kids to strengthen their pincer muscles which is important for other tasks like buttons, zippers, and holding their pencil correctly.

HOW TO VIDEO:

Supplies needed for Paper Chick Craft:

  • White Cardstock, I used 8.5 x 11 in piece
  • Cardstock, green, yellow, blue and orange
  • Large Googly eyes
  • Glue, we prefer a glue stick but liquid glue works just as well.
supplies - cardstock in the colors blue, green, orange, yellow, and white. Googly eyes on table.

HOW TO MAKE TORN PAPER CHICK CRAFT:

  1. Rip Green paper to make grass and blue paper to make a thin sky and glue to paper.
  2. Rip yellow paper into small pieces, about 1/2 inch to 1 inch wide.
  3. Glue paper in an egg shaped “circle”
  4. Cut out wings from your yellow paper and a beak and feet from your orange paper. Tuck wings slightly behind paper and glue in place.
  5. Add googly eyes, beak and feet and secure with glue.

What paper should I use?

We typically prefer to use cardstock when crafting as it’s a sturdier option. However, for some kids a light weight construction paper will be easier to tear into smaller pieces. Either option is great! A note on cardstock…some brands of cardstock are made as a WHITE core cardstock, meaning when you tear it there will be white in the middle rather than the solid color throughout. This is of course a perfectly fine paper to use, just something to be aware of when paper shopping or if you are surprised to see white while tearing.
