DIY Stickers
Making stickers is such a fun craft for kids of all ages! In my Art class I did this for my 1st graders all the way up to my 6th graders. While each age group required different amounts of assistance they all loved creating their own personalized stickers and getting the chance to doodle their own creations.
If your little ones would rather color their own stickers we offer a free Doodle Inspiration Sheet! Feel free to color and cut out these graphics to be used as stickers OR you can also use it as an inspiration sheet used to spark kids imagination for drawing their own designs.

HOW TO VIDEO:
Materials Needed To Make Homemade Stickers
- Paper – we prefer cardstock but regular printer paper also works.
- Free Doodle Inspiration Sheet
- Markers or Colored Pencils (see notes below) – we loved using these Ultra-fine Markers
- Clear Packing Tape
- Parchment Paper
- Scissors
- Pencil & Black Ultra- fine Sharpie, if drawing your own
* Make sure you use either markers or colored pencils. Crayons are too waxy and the tape will not adhere properly.

How To Make Homemade Stickers
Step 1: Draw or Color your Stickers
Start off by either coloring your sticker design or drawing your own. We recommend drawing with pencil and then tracing with an ultra fine Sharpie marker. Before continuing erase your pencil lines. **When drawing your own designs, make sure your drawing isn’t wider than the width of the tape you are using. Our packing tape was a tad more than 2 inches wide so we made sure our designs were smaller than that.**

Step 2: Sticker Cut
Cut around your colored stickers leaving a small white area all around the sticker – also known as a “sticker cut.”

Step 3: Making a Sticker Sandwich
Take a piece of clear packing tape and lay it on top of your parchment paper (sticky side facing the packing tape.) Lay your cut out stickers on top of your tape, evenly spaced, making sure it’s on the tape.
Take a second piece of tape and lay it carefully on top of your sticker designs. You are making a “sticker sandwich!” This part can be a little tricky for younger kids as you want to ensure you don’t have any wrinkles in your design.

Step 4: Cut out your Stickers!
Cut around your sticker a second time making sure to leave an area around your sticker (a second sticker cut) Now you will have individual stickers! You can now peel off the parchment paper and use it as a normal sticker.

Crafty Tips:
- Types of Paper: you can use a heavier paper such as cardstock or regular copy paper. Adding two layers of tape makes these stickers sturdy. The heavier the paper the less flexible and bendy your sticker will be. These stickers work best on a flat surface but if you are wanting to make these into water bottle stickers you may want to use a lighter paper.
- Larger Stickers: while we prefer to make small stickers that fit on the width of our packing tape you can make slightly larger ones if desired. You will need to place two pieces of tape next to each other just slightly overlapping. This may result in a small seam on your finished sticker but it’s hardly noticeable.
- Contact Paper – while I haven’t personally tried this method yet you could most likely use contact paper instead of the packing tape.
