Handprint Rainbow: A Craft Celebrating God’s Promises

Creating a Handprint Rainbow is a fun, meaningful craft that combines the beauty of God’s creation with a reminder of His promises in a craft simple enough for the little crafters.

This Bible craft is a fun additional Noah themed activity your kids can enjoy! You can craft a paper boat with some pairs of animals or you can give our watercolor rainbow a try- this is particularly fun for kids because as they watercolor their designs appear.

Materials Needed To Make A Handprint Rainbow

  • Paints in the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)
  • White construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Free Cloud Template with Bible verse.
  • A surface cover (newspaper or plastic tablecloth) to keep your workspace clean

What colors are in the rainbow?

There are actually 7 colors in the rainbow that God created – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet/Purple. Sometimes indigo can be a harder color to find for kids crafts so we tend to stick with the more classic primary colors for ease of crafting but feel free to add indigo if you have the paint!

How To Make a Handprint Rainbow Craft

Step 1: Paint your Handprints

Pour a small amount of paint onto a plate. Using a paint brush, paint your child’s hand. Press your child’s painted hand onto a white piece of cardstock. Allow to dry and cut around handprint. Repeat with all colors of the rainbow.

Step 2: Assemble your colorful Rainbow

Using either glue or tape, adhere your handprints together in a bow shape.

Step 3: Adding God’s Promise

Use our free cloud template to make a secondary cloud and glue to the bottom of your red hand. Use the cloud with the Bible verse and glue it to the purple handprint.

The Significance of the Rainbow

The rainbow is a beautiful symbol we get to enjoy representing God’s promise to Noah and to all living creatures that He would never again flood the entire earth. Genesis 9:13 says, “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” This verse is a beautiful reminder of God’s everlasting faithfulness and His unchanging promises.
