Handprint Snowman Craft for Kids
This Handprint Snowman is a simple kids winter craft that centers around a friendly seasonal snowman. Using just a few basic supplies, kids can make their own adorable snowmen with colorful winter hats and unique personalities!
We love making fun handprint crafts here at Made to be a Momma. My kids always love starting with their handprint and seeing what they can create with their hands and fingers. As my kids get older they prefer to trace around their hand and cut it out but you can always start by using a painted handprint if you prefer.

HOW TO VIDEO:
Materials Needed To Make A Handprint Snowman
- Free Snowman Template
- White cardstock *
- Paint (for the hats – so feel free to choose your favorite colors!)
- Colored paper (for the hats)
- Orange paper (for the nose)
- Black marker, we used an Ultra Fine Sharpie but any marker will work
- Pink crayon or marker (for cheeks)
- Scissors
- Glue
* Many times you can use construction paper instead of cardstock for our crafts but for this particular craft we really recommend using cardstock. Since we will be painting part of the paper using a stronger paper helps with durability and avoids the paper getting oversaturated and ripping.

How To Make a Handprint Snowman
Step 1: Make the Base and Paint!
- Create the Handprint: Start by tracing your child’s hand onto a piece of white cardstock. Cut it out. If you have a child that doesn’t prefer to have their hand traced but still wants to participate, you can use our free handprint in our free template.
- Paint the Hat: Using a pencil, lightly create a line across the fingers and thumb to create a guide as to where you would like your hat to stop. Make sure you leave enough room to add the snowmans silly face. Paint your fingers and the area on the thumb with your favorite paint color. Let Dry.
- Finish the Hat Details: Using our free template, cut out a rectangle piece of paper for the brim of your hat. We chose to use a coordinating color but feel free to use a contrasting color if desired. Trim your hat brim to your desired length.

Step 2: Creating the Face
- Add the Face: Cut a small triangle from orange paper or use our free template. Glue it in the center for the carrot nose. Add your pink paper cheeks.
- Add Personality: Add your eyes and smile! You can choose to give your snowman a silly smile, a classic rock smile or even a smirk!

Crafty Tips & Swaps
- No Mess Please: Don’t want to deal with paint? Feel free to color the fingers portion of your handprint instead of using paint!
- Scissor Skills: As mentioned above, feel free to use our free handprint to cut out and use if desired. Kids will still benefit from the cutting portion even if they want to forgo tracing their hand.
- Pink Cheeks: Feel free to allow kids to color their own pink cheeks instead of using cardstock.
- Add a Magnet: Add a little self-adhesive magnet to the back to make it an instance craft that’s perfect for the fridge!

Why We Love This Craft
- It’s simple and uses materials you likely already have at home.
- Builds muscles: it sounds silly to think that a craft has muscle building benefits but cutting, gluing, tearing, pasting, etc are all fantastic ways to help build those finger muscles. Those muscles in turn will also be able to zipper, use buttons and tie shoes.
- It encourages creativity, allowing kids to choose different colors for their hats and facial expressions.
This Handprint Snowman Craft is the perfect winter activity to do at home or in the classroom. Pair it with a fun snow-themed book for an extra cozy crafting session!
Happy crafting! ⛄❄️
