Carnival Popcorn Craft for Kids (Made with Tissue Paper!)
There’s just something magical about a trip to the carnival or a local county fair! The bright lights, exciting games, silly prizes, and, of course, the smell of buttery popcorn filling the air always make it feel like an extra special summer day!
We would go to our local county fair every summer when I was a little girl. I remember riding the rides, eating all the delicious fair food, and making a beeline for my favorite game, Pick the Duck, where every rubber ducky won a prize with a special number on the bottom. The smell of fresh popcorn and warm funnel cakes filled the air, and it always felt like the best day of summer. Now, we take our own kids to our local county fair almost every summer (although we’ve missed a year here and there), and it’s so much fun watching them create some of the same memories I did. Those memories inspired this Carnival Popcorn Craft for Kids, complete with a hidden golden ticket tucked inside for an extra little surprise!
This printable lets kids color their own popcorn bucket, add fluffy tissue paper popcorn, and then lift the bucket to reveal the hidden ticket underneath. It’s a simple craft with a fun interactive twist that feels just a little bit like winning a carnival prize.
Why You’ll Love This Carnival Popcorn Craft
- The hidden golden ticket adds a fun interactive surprise.
- Fluffy tissue paper popcorn gives the craft extra texture.
- Great for practicing coloring, cutting, gluing, and fine motor skills.
- Perfect for carnival, county fair, circus, or summer themes.
- Includes a free printable template that’s easy to prep.

Why Is There a Hidden Golden Ticket?
One of my favorite parts of this craft is the hidden golden ticket.
Every carnival has something exciting waiting around the corner…a prize, a winning game, or a special surprise. I wanted this craft to capture that same feeling of anticipation. After kids finish decorating their popcorn bucket, they get to lift the flap and discover the golden ticket hidden underneath.
You can even turn it into a fun activity by asking questions like:
- What prize did your golden ticket win?
- Which ride are you heading to first?
- What’s your favorite carnival treat?
- Would you play Pick the Duck or another carnival game?
It’s a simple little surprise that encourages imagination and storytelling long after the glue has dried.
Supplies Needed to Make Popcorn Craft
- Free POP! Carnival Printable
- Tissue Paper Squares* (we used yellow, cream color and a white)
- Red Marker
- Foam Glitter Stars
- Glue
- Scissors
Note: We used these pre-cut tissue paper squares because I craft often and keep them on hand for projects and my art classroom. If you don’t already have them, don’t feel like you need to buy them! A package of tissue paper from your local dollar or craft store works just as well. Simply cut a few sheets into small squares, and you’ll have more than enough for this craft without needing to store a large container of pre-cut pieces.

Katie’s Craft Tips
As both a mom of three and an elementary art teacher, I’ve made crafts like this with lots of little hands over the years! Here are a few of my favorite tips to help make your crafting time easier, less messy, and even more fun.

How to Make a Popcorn Bucket Craft with a Hidden Ticket!
Step One:
- Print out your free popcorn bucket and carnival printable.
- Color your popcorn bucket. We chose to color it in the classic red & white pattern but kids can color it anyway they want!

Step Two:
- Fold of the top edge of your popcorn bucket by about 1/2 an inch.
- Glue that edge to your carnival printable sheet. You want the popcorn bucket to cover the hidden ticket while also leaving room to create popcorn above it.

Step Three:
- Place one tissue paper square flat on your work surface.
- Add a small dot of glue to the center.
- Lay a second tissue paper square on top, turning it slightly so it forms a diamond shape.
- Try layering two different shades of tissue paper (like white and cream) to give your popcorn extra dimension.
- Gently pinch and crumple both layers toward the center. Don’t worry, there’s no right or wrong way to do this!
- Glue each piece of tissue paper popcorn above the popcorn bucket, layering them closely together until the top looks full and fluffy!

Step Four:
- Add foam glitter stars around the top of your POP! words if desired! You can also hand draw stars or doodles.

Make It Your Own
One of my favorite things about this printable is how easy it is to customize! The included Golden Ticket captures the excitement of winning a prize at the carnival, but I’ve also included a blank version if you’d like to create your own reveal.
Here are a few fun ideas for the blank version:
- Let kids draw the carnival prize they “won”
- Let kids design their own golden ticket
- Have them write a secret message
- Simply skip the whole “golden ticket” idea and just glue the popcorn bucket onto the page.
