Paper Winter Hat Craft for Kids
This 2025 year has started off COLD here in Northeastern Pennsylvania and in many states surrounding. Currently we as a United States are experiencing an Arctic Blast in states that rarely ever even see snow! It’s a CHILLY history in the making! While it may be too blustery to be outside we can still bring some of the winter feel inside such as these “cozy” paper winter hats!
A white paint pen is the snowy star of this craft! You can find a white paint pen on Amazon, your local craft store and at most Walmarts in the craft section. We used the white paint pen in this craft because it create the most vibrant look on our cardstock. You may substitute with a white colored pencil but the results will be a bit lack luster.

How To Make a Paper Winter Hat
Step 1: Prepare your Winter Hat
Print and Cut Out the Template: Begin by downloading and printing the free winter hat template on your favorite colored cardstock. You can also print it on white cardstock and then trace it onto your colored cardstock. Cut out the hat shape along the lines.

Step 2: Decorate your Winter Hat
Decorate the Hat: Use a white paint pen to add fun details to the hat,* such as snowflakes, polka dots, or stripes. Let your kids’ imaginations run wild—no two hats need to look the same! It will take a few minutes for the paint pen to dry.
* You can decide if you want to add the googly eyes first and then doodle around them or doodle first and then add your googly eyes. Just be aware that adding your googly eyes last will cover some of your design.

Step 3: Add Personality
Add the Face: Once your paint pen doodles are dry, attach googly eyes to the hat for a playful touch. Then, cut out two small pink circles from the cardstock for cheeks and glue them just below the eyes. Use a black marker to draw a charming smirk to complete the friendly face.

Crafty Tips:
- Use Different Colors: Let kids pick their favorite colors for the hats to make the craft more personalized. Consider using patterned cardstock or themed colors like winter blues or holiday reds and greens to match the season.
- Simple Swap: Don’t have any pom poms on hand? Use a fluffy cotton ball instead!
- Quick Drying: If using glue for the googly eyes and cheeks, a quick-dry craft glue or glue dots can speed up the process. For younger kids, double-sided tape might be a great alternative to avoid messy glue altogether.
