Line Art & Pattern Leaf Garland
This Metallic Leaf Garland is the perfect Fall project for kids of all ages! Not only is it a simple craft, but it is also a fun way to introduce line art and patterns with metallic markers that sparkle and shine! I originally saw this idea over on 2art.Chambers instagram page (she is a fantastic Art teacher!) and I knew we had to recreate this and make it into a pretty Fall garland

What is Line Art?
Line art is all about creating pictures and designs by just using lines! Lines can be straight, wavy, zigzag, curly, or even dotted. You can make lines thick or thin, and when you put them together, they can create cool patterns and shapes. With line art, you’re making art using only lines, instead of coloring things in like you might with crayons or markers.
For this craft, you’ll use lines to make patterns. You can draw patterns like stripes, swirls, dots, hearts, smiley faces, or even little zigzags. Kids will have a blast making each leaf your own mini masterpiece!

How To Make a Metallic Leaf Garland
Step 1: Cut out Leaf Shapes
Start by cutting out leaf shapes from the dark brown and light brown construction paper. You can use our free leaf templates or let your kids draw their own unique leaf shapes.

Step 2: Practice Line Art:
Now comes the fun part! Using the metallic markers, have your kids draw lines, patterns, and designs on the leaves. This is a great way for them to practice line art!

Step 3: String the Leaves Together
Once the leaves are decorated, use a hole punch to create a small hole at the top of each leaf. Thread the string or twine through the holes, spacing the leaves out evenly. Tape the back of your leaves to the string if the leaves are shifting. If you don’t have a hole punch, you can tape the string to the back of each leaf instead.

Step 4: Display your Garland
Hang your beautiful garland in your home, in your classroom or in the hallways!
