Easy Snowman Craft for Kids

This foam cup snowman craft is such a fun way to bring a little winter cheer to your crafting table—without a big mess or a long supply list. With just a few simple materials, kids can turn an ordinary foam cup into an adorable snowman complete with cozy earmuffs, a soft fleece scarf, and a bright craft foam carrot nose. It’s one of those winter crafts that feels playful and creative, but is still easy enough for kids of all ages to enjoy.

I especially love this project for during the cold winter when we’re all spending a little extra time indoors and just need something fun to brighten the day. Kids can really make their snowman their own by choosing different color scarves, and drawing different faces.

Materials Needed To Make A Foam Cup Snowman

  • Foam Cups (we used 16 ounce cups)
  • Colorful Craft Felt
  • Orange Craft Foam
  • Pom Poms
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Sharpie
  • Pink Marker
  • Glue

How To Make a Foam Cup Snowman

Step 1: Preparing the Snowman Scarf

  • Cut strips of colorful felt. Make sure your strips are long enough to wrap around the edges of the cup with some excess. Add small cuts at both ends of the felt to look like fringe.

Step 2: Creating the Face

  • Use a black marker to draw the eyes and mouth. Add a little personality here—smiles, dotted snowman mouths, or even a wiggly grin all work great. Lightly add pink cheeks using a marker.

Step 3: Add the Nose

  • Cut a small triangle from orange craft foam to make the carrot nose. Glue it right in the center of the face.

Step 4: Making the Ear-Muffs

  • Bend a pipe cleaner into a gentle arch that fits over the top of the cup. Glue a pom-pom to each end, then attach the ends to the sides of the cup to create cozy earmuffs.

  • Pre-cut supplies for younger kids to make this a quick and frustration-free craft.
  • Fleece doesn’t fray, which makes it perfect for little hands learning to wrap and glue.
  • Encourage kids to experiment with different facial expressions ! It’s a fun way for kids to express their own personality!
  • These snowmen look adorable lined up on a shelf, windowsill, or classroom display.

Why This Is a Great Winter Craft

  • Simple and low-mess
  • Builds fine motor skills through cutting, wrapping, and gluing
  • Easy to adapt for different ages
  • Uses inexpensive materials you may already have
