How To Make a Spooky Tree Halloween Craft
Step 1: Paint and Splatter the Night Sky
- Using a paintbrush and purple paint, brush a horizontal sky across the top half of your paper. Don’t worry about making it perfect! As your brush starts to run out of paint, let it create a dry brush effect — those lighter streaks and rough edges give your sky a soft, misty look that’s perfect for this project. Wash and dry your brush.
- Dip your paintbrush into white paint and lightly tap it against another brush or a pencil to splatter tiny white stars across your sky. You can also use a toothbrush—just dip it in paint and run your finger along the bristles to create an even mist of stars. Be sure to cover your workspace with newspaper or wax paper before splattering to keep things mess-free!

Step 2: Build the Forest
Arrange your branches to look like tall trees stretching up toward the sky. Use a mix of lengths and shapes to add interest and variety. Once your child is happy with the layout, an adult can secure the branches in place using hot glue. (Hot glue works best for uneven sticks!) You can also use liquid glue if preferred but it does take much longer to dry and may not hold as well if the sticks aren’t perfectly flat.

Step 3: Add Googly Eyes
Glue on googly eyes peeking between the branches. We used various size eyes but you can use all one size if you would like. Are the eyes forest creatures, silly monsters, or something else? Let your kids decide!
