Supplies Needed to make a Blueberry Fruit Basket

• Craft Paint, blue (we used two shades of blue)
• Blue Marker or Gel Pen
• Green Marker or Gel Pen
• White Paint Pen
• White Cardstock
• Blue Cardstock, to act as background frame for the finished project
• 8 Popsicle Sticks
• Liquid Elmers Glue, white or clear

How to Make a Fingerprint Blueberry Basket

Step One: Create the Basket Guide

• Lay one popsicle stick horizontally near the bottom of the paper.
• Lightly trace a line across the top edge with a pencil.
• Place one popsicle stick at each end of the line and angle them outward slightly.
• Trace another light line along each stick.
• Use these lines as a guide to help keep the fingerprint blueberries inside the basket shape.

Step Two: Paint the Blueberries

• Dip your finger into blue paint and stamp fingerprints inside the basket shape.
• Continue adding fingerprints until the basket appears full.
• Allow some blueberries to overlap slightly at the top to create the look of an overflowing basket.
• Kids do not need to dip their finger into the paint every single time.
• As the paint begins to fade on their fingertip, it creates lighter and darker blueberries that add dimension and texture to the artwork.
• Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step Three: Add Blueberry Details

• Use blue markers or blue glitter pens to add shading and texture to the blueberries.
• Draw a small “x” shape at the top of some blueberries with a black marker.
• Add small white highlights with a white paint pen to help the blueberries pop.

Step Four: Make the Basket

• Glue the popsicle sticks onto the paper to create the blueberry basket shape.
• Place one popsicle stick across the bottom of the blueberries.
• Angle two popsicle sticks outward along each side to form the basket. Add two more vertical and three more horizontal sticks.
• Use liquid glue instead of a glue stick because it holds the popsicle sticks more securely.
• Allow the glue to dry completely before handling the finished craft.

Step Five: Cut and Frame the Artwork

• Cut the artwork into a square shape or carefully sticker cut around the design.
• Glue the finished artwork onto a piece of blue construction paper to create a colorful frame if desired.
