Poppy Seed Sweet Bread

This Poppy Seed Bread is a family favorite recipe.  This quick bread is perfectly moist and bursting with flavors of poppy seed, vanilla and almond extract. Finished with a touch of orange in the delicious glaze. Great for breakfast or brunch!

Ingredients

Bread

  • 2 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp butter flavored extract optional
  • 2 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cup milk

Glaze

  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp butter flavored extract optional
  • 3 cups confectioners sugar

Instructions

  • Combine sugar and oil in a large bowl, beat until blended.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Add flavorings and poppy seeds, mix well. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Add to creamed mixture, alternately with milk, until well blended.
  • Pour into 2 loaf pans.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, let cool for 5 minutes in the pan.
  • Combine glaze ingredients; poke a few holes in the top of the bread and pour glaze over breads while still in pans.
  • Let stand 5 minutes more; remove from pans to cooling rack.
