Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup butter flavored crisco shortening *see notes below
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

  • Mix together butter, shortening and vanilla together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time and beat on low speed.
  • Slowly add heavy cream and whip together.

Notes

  • We like to use half butter and half shortening because we find the shortening prevents the frosting from getting too soft, especially in warmer weather.  You can use all butter if desired.
