Snickerdoodle Cookies

These snickerdoodle cookies are a family favorite and a classic recipe that is loved among many families around the holiday season.  They are great to enjoy with a cup of coffee, tea or a glass of milk.  They are a great recipe to bring to an annual cookie exchange or just on a platter to enjoy with friends.

A couple key ingredients are needed to make delicious and soft snickerdoodles.

  • Cinnamon Sugar Mixture – being rolled in a sweet cinnamon sugar mixture is what gives the snickerdoodles their classic look and taste! It’s not a snickerdoodle without the sweet sparkle coating.
  • Cream of Tartar – cream of tartar is what gives these cookies just a slight tang to them.  It helps keep the cookie chewy and you can easily find it in any grocery store.

Do Snickerdoodle cookies freeze well?

Yes! One of my favorite things about baking cookies is more times than not they freeze perfectly!  These snickerdoodles freeze great either unbaked or baked.

  • To freeze unbaked – prepare dough and roll into balls. Flash freeze (place the pan of rolled cookies in the freezer for 20-30 minutes) then place them in a freezer bag. To BAKE: Remove from freezer, allow to thaw for 20-30 minutes. Roll in cinnamon sugar mixture and bake.
  • To Freeze Baked –  bake cookies as instructed. Allow them to cool completely and place in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. When ready to eat remove from freezer and allow to thaw in refrigerator.
