How Do I Make This Sweet and Healthy Treat?

Make these apple nachos in a variety of ways by cutting them however you want. We typically slice them into normal wedges and lay them on a large platter or plate. For my recipe, mix together the peanut butter and honey and melt in the microwave for about 15 seconds. You want the consistency to be easy to drizzle on the apple slices. Drizzle the mixture on top of the apples. Sprinkle the chocolate chips, coconut flakes, and peanut butter chips on top of the apples. This is where you add any of your preferred toppings as well.

This is such an easy snack to whip up if you have toppings on hand often. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Store the extras in an airtight container on the counter or in the fridge. Eat them within a few days for maximum enjoyment.

These crunchy peanut butter apple nachos make a great school snack, platter for a celebration or party, or an everyday treat!

If you are trying to cut even more calories and fat from your diet you can also replace the peanut butter with PB Fit, which I actually really enjoy! You can leave the peanut butter off completely and drizzle the apple slices with some dark chocolate as well. These apple slices really can be whatever you want!

What Type of Apple Should I Use?

Use any apple you want! Apples range from crisp to a little soft and sour to sweeter. Some of our favorite apples are Honeycrisp apples, fuji apples, gala apples, or a ripe pink lady. If you like sour apples, go for a granny smith apple.

My littlest guy-Carter-could not have enough of these apples! My oldest son Jacob tends to be a very picky eater but he loved these apples as well! It was great knowing he was getting a healthy and nutritious snack without “forcing” him to eat something he normally doesn’t like.

I hope you and your family enjoy this yummy and healthy snack. I would love to hear which toppings you add to your apples!

How Do I Keep Apples Slices From Turning Brown?

One simple way to keep your apple slices from turning brown (especially if you are taking them to a party where they might sit for a while) is you soak them in saltwater. Yes, you heard me right, saltwater. Use a 1/2 tsp of salt in about a quart of water. Mix thoroughly and let the apples soak for about five minutes. Now you can store them in a baggie or immediately use them to make your apple nachos.

I have also kept my fresh apples from going brown by soaking them in lemon juice. This works very well. Something about the citric acid keeps the apples fresh, so you can use lemon-lime soda or anything with a little citrus in it.

  1. If you want these to be low carb, sub liquid stevia and melted coconut oil for the honey, and sub crushed pecans or walnuts for the chocolate and butterscotch chips. Or raisins and crushed peanuts. Use unsweetened coconut. Or use the stevia sweetened peanut butter and plain cinnamon (without the sugar) and raisins. So many ways to keep it mostly low carb.

    1. Hi Sarah, You can always place your apple slices in your purple container first…and then drizzle with peanut butter 1 tsp at a time. Measure out your nuts or toppings according to the correct colored container and add it all up 🙂
