What is it about the holidays that make us want to bake so much more?! I have a fun core group of girl friends that I love hanging out with and lately we have gotten together to do some crafty things. A few weeks ago 6 of my closest friends came over for a super fun Cookie Decorating Party. My mom taught us some tips and tricks and how to frost with gel icing. My mom is so talented in the kitchen and over the past few years has gotten into decorating cakes and cookies. She actually made my wedding cake, my sisters wedding cake and a few others as well. I was so grateful that she took the time to show us girls how to do some simple decorating! In order to host a successful cookie decorating party I teamed up with my favorite girls at Joann Fabric & Craft Store and was able to put together some super fun gift bags.
Each girl got to go home with a couple icing bags, #1M tip, #2 tip, #5 tip, a couple couplers, star cookie cutter and a small handful of cupcake liners. The girls loved their goodie bags! For your own party you can either create goodie bags with the needed supplies to make their cookies or have the girls bring their own tools. You can find everything you need at your local Joann Fabric & Craft Store. You will need to decide what kind of cookies you want to make and how many different colored icings you will have and then go from there 🙂
A great way to add some fun decor to your party without having to spend a ton of money is by cutting up some cereal boxes and wrapping them in wrapping paper. It makes a perfect little cookie base and keeps the “mess” in one place 🙂 I bought some fun little snowflake confetti and added that to the table as well.
Along with the gift bags, I printed all the recipes used to make the cookies. Each girl went home with a Sugar Cookie recipe, Gel icing recipe and a Buttercream Icing recipe.
My mom made all the needed icing before the party, so I placed them in a bowl where they were all within an arms reach. To create a less stressful party I definitely recommend preparing your cookies and icing ahead of time. Just make sure you keep your icing in an air tight container until your guests arrive.
I love to host parties and get togethers at my house and one thing I have focused on lately is keeping it simple! As women we so easily get stressed out over all the things we THINK we need to do before someone can come into our home but in all honestly, simple is better. The important part is just getting together with people that you love and having fun together!
Isn’t this reindeer adorable! So fun! To keep the party simple we decorated three cookies each- a snowflake, reindeer and a mitten.
I’m going to be hosting a Christmas Cookie Exchange in a couple of week and I am excited to put some of the things I learned to the test 🙂
