Homemade Chocolate Sauce: simple and delicious chocolate sauce that is great in milk or as a topping on desserts.
Everything is better with chocolate right? Well for most people 🙂 I tend to like more fruity desserts but certainly indulge in chocolatey desserts at times. Last month I shared my delicious homemade strawberry syrup that I happen to use for making strawberry milk and decided to try out some homemade chocolate sauce as well. You won’t believe how easy this chocolate sauce/syrup is to make. I don’t know why I didn’t try making some of these products that we use frequently before now. Now that I have, I’m starting to swap out store bought pantry items for homemade. Homemade anything is pretty much always better than store bought, both in that it is better for you because you control the ingredients but it also tends to be cheaper. You probably even have all of the ingredients needed in your pantry right now to make this homemade chocolate sauce.
This homemade chocolate sauce is thicker than the store bought chocolate syrup but not too thick that it doesn’t slowly run off a spoon. It mixes up perfectly fine in a glass of milk and is great to use for desserts or ice cream. One note: the chocolate sauce will thicken in the fridge slightly.
Homemade Chocolate Sauce
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup honey
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips you can also use milk chocolate chips for a sweeter sauce
- Place cocoa, milk, honey, and salt in a small saucepan. Whisk over medium-low heat until the mixture is thick and the cocoa has completely dissolved. Remove from heat and add vanilla and chocolate chips. Stir until chocolate chips have melted.
- Pour into jar or air-tight covered container. Cool to room temperature, cover and store in the refrigerator.
