This Halloween Tic Tac Toe game is a fun activity for kids and adults alike. You can enjoy it year after year!
Halloween isn’t a big holiday in my household but we do love cute Jack-O-Lanterns and friendly ghosts 🙂 Every year we go to my Moms house for a cookie decorating, pumpkin carving, hide and seek night. It’s our own little tradition that the kids have loved over the years…of course they get to dress up too 🙂 This little halloween tic tac toe game is the perfect activity for you kids, or even yourself! It’s a simple game for even the younger kids. Toss the little Peg Dolls in a little baggie and you have a great on-the-go game for this season.
This fun Halloween Tic Tac Toe game all started with a fun new promotion that Plaid is offering….the Apple Barrel Starter Kit. Keep reading for more specific details on how you can get this fun Starter Kit. While I was looking through all the colors this kit had to offer I decided to settle on some Halloween friendly colors such as Lemon, Black, True Green, Outrageous Orange and others. I love throwing in some more “non-traditional” paint colors when crafting too such as the Wisteria paint color.
Supplies needed for Halloween Tic Tac Toe:
- Wooden Tray, size depends on how big you want your base to be
- Peg Dolls, found in most craft stores
- Apple Barrel ® Multi- Surface Paint, various colors
- Paint Brushes
- Decorative tape
First you will need to base coat your little Peg Dolls. I chose the smaller size that around 2 inches tall but any size will do. I decided to make a Jack-O-Lantern set, ghost set, and finally a Frankenstein set. Just make sure you have at least 5 pieces per set so they have enough for one round of Tic-Tac-Toe.
You can either paint on your faces or use a Sharpie marker. I used a Sharpie Marker for these smaller peg dolls faces but used a paint brush and some black paint for Frankensteins hair.
You could also add some light brown shading around the ghost to give him more of a mummy feel. I really can’t decide which Peg Doll is my favorite 🙂
While your Peg Dolls are drying paint your wooden tray. I then used a toothbrush that was dipped into some paint and used my finger to “splatter” Halloween friendly colors around the tray. This is completely optional but I thought it added some fun texture and a fun pop of color to the tray.
Once your tray is dry you will want to add your tape pieces to the wooden tray. My tape was very sticky so it adhered great. If you find your tape isn’t staying on very well just add layer of Mod Podge to the top of your tray! You can even use my personal favorite, Extreme Glitter, for some added fun 🙂
My kids loved this little game! It’s small enough that can be stored away and use year after year 🙂 I think we might have to make a Christmas version too!
