Okay friends, I can’t wait to share today’s craft project with you. It’s colorful, rustic and oh so pretty! Did I mention it’s budget friendly too! Ever see those gorgeously rusted vases or watering cans but didn’t want to spend what they were asking for? Well, now you can create your own antique looking home vignettes with one of FolkArt® newest products the FolkArt Painted Finishes. Rust not your thing? You can try out some of their other finishes such as Concrete, Moss or even Barnwood.
Each of the FolkArt Painted Finishes has a light version and a dark version, for this project I used the dark rust and the light rust. Plaid also created a fun little brush set that is perfect for dabbing on the various finishes.
Supplies:
- Metal container, FolkArt Painted Finishes in Rust can also be used on wood, plastic and terra cotta.
- FolkArt Painted Finishes in Rust, I used the light and dark
- FolkArt Painted Finishes Shortie Brush Set
First you will need to prep your surface by washing the tin with warm soap and water. Allow to dry completely. To remove any remaining soap residue or grease, wipe the surface down with a small amount of white distilled vinegar.
Using one of the Painted Finishes brushes, I dabbed on the dark rust around my metal “vase.” I repeated that step with the light colored rust. You can use the two colors together or by themselves depending on the look you want.
I then filled the vase with some pretty fake flowers, but you can certainly use real ones as well. I also tied a simple lace ribbon around the center of the vase.
It’s amazing how a small amount of a painted finish can add such a different look to a project and adds a fun texture as well. The Painted Finishes in Rust, Concrete and Moss are all indoor and outdoor safe. The Barnwood finish is indoor only. I have a few more projects up my sleeve using the different FolkArt Painted Finishes and I can’t wait to share them with you! What FolkArt Painted Finishes will you try first?

Wow! That completely changes the look, and it really does appear rusted! These finishes are so much fun. I’m with you on the fake flowers too…achoo! Love it, Katie.
