This coffee cup holder is a simple & pretty diy project to organize your coffee mugs.
This may come as a surprise, but I am actually not that big of a fan of coffee. I absolutely love the scent of coffee but the taste not so much. I am more of a hot chocolate/hot tea type of girl. My husband however loves his coffee, like most of the world 🙂 When I was asked by Plaid to come up with a project using their FolkArt ® Home Decor Chalk, which just so happens to be one of my favorite paints to work with, I just knew I needed to make this coffee cup holder! I love to use this particular chalk paint because it’s water-based, there is no need to prime or sand your pieces, it’s Made in the USA, and they have over 41 colors to choose from in 8 oz. sizes and now 2 oz, 16 oz, and 32 oz. There is a size for all your home decor projects.
In my home, I have a lot of whites, grays, and shades of mints in my home decor. For this particular project I used a few different colors of Chalk Paint but the two main colors were Patina and Seaside Villa.
Supplies for Coffee Cup Holder:
- FolkArt Home Decor Chalk Paint, colors you desire
- Piece of Wood, used for hang mugs
- Chalk Paint Brush
- Layering Block, optional
- Hooks
I found this wood pallet type at my local craft store but you can use any type of wood that will hold the amount of coffee mugs you want.
I started off my painting on a base coat with the Patina chalk paint. After the base coat dried I did a very light coat of Seaside Villa on different areas of the wood boards. Then I used the layering block to create a unique distressed look with the Parisian Grey color
You simply dip the layering block in paint and in one-motion run it across the board.
I used the layering block with both the mint and gray colors until it was exactly how I wanted it 🙂
To finish the coffee cup holder just add a few simple hooks. I laid down all my hooks and mugs BEFORE screwing them down to make sure I had them in just the right place.
I absolutely LOVE how this coffee cup holder turned out! It’s the perfect shade of turquoise/mint and is such a pretty way to display my pretty mugs 🙂

I love the DIY concept of this. Doing a DIY project is always so special because it’s more personalized than getting it out of the box. Great post! 🙂
