BBQ Chicken Pretzel Pizza: a salty pretzel crust and a sweet barbecue sauce makes this pizza a new favorite in any pizza loving home!
When pizza and soft pretzel dough come together they make a delicious lunch or dinner recipe. My family loves pizza, as most families do, and we are always trying to put together new combinations. My kids are more willing to try new veggies and meat if it’s already on something they love! 🙂 This time we decided to put our own spin on Tastefully Simple’s Grilled BBQ Chicken Pretzel Pizza Recipe. I was short on time so rather than grilling the pizza we baked it in the oven and it turned out so good! My boys don’t even typically like barbecue sauce but even they asked for seconds! This pizza goes great with all the Tastefully Simple Labor Day Entertaining Collection recipes and craft ideas.
I used Tastefully Simple’s Salted Pretzel Roll Mix which is so delicious and easy! Sometimes soft pretzel dough can be difficult to work with but I have used this mix three times now and every time it turns out great! Instead of grilling the soft pretzel dough I rolled it onto a baking sheet and sprinkled the salt around the edges. I par-baked the crust at 350 degrees for about 6-7 minutes and then I added my toppings.
I used about 2 cups of shredded, cooked chicken. I simply boiled the chicken on the stovetop until it was done and shredded it with a fork. I added a layer of Tastefully Simple’s Smoky Bacon Bbq Sauce on top of the crust. I added the chicken on top and poured some more sauce on top.
I then topped the chicken with some mozzarella and cheddar cheese and baked until it was bubbly and the cheese was beginning to brown, about 10 minutes.
The edges of the crust got slightly crunchy like a soft pretzel but was soft in the inside. If you have never tried soft pretzel dough as your pizza crust I highly suggest it. I know we are going to do it more often! 🙂
